Sketching the female form

Sketching the female form can be very difficult to do for the novice but with Sketching the female formpractise and a little knowledge you can sketch the female form. The Sketching the female formmost important element in sketching the female form as in any form of sketching is the structure, without structure your drawing will fall down like a chair with no legs.

Sketching the female form

The photo that I am sketching from, note the pose, a simple and elegant pose.

Sketching the female form

This is a 2 minute sketch of the photo above and setting yourself a time limit is good because it makes you aware of what is there and it helps you to really see and observe. The pose is there but can you see that the diagonal line in between the upper leg and her left arm (Looking at the photo) is where I drew a line to find her upper leg but I misjudged it. Don't rub out lines that are wrong, they add character to a sketch and it lets the viewer get involved in your drawing.

Sketching the female form

I did this sketch from the same photo in 10 minutes so I didn't have that much time to see everything that I could have put into the sketch. Here we are talking about sketching and not a finished drawing as such. There are things that are not quite right with it but it doesn't matter it is a sketch! everything is there that needs to be, Ok the curvature of her body isn't quite right and her head isn't bowed like it is in the photo but I only had ten minutes to sketch it. The point here is observation, we need to observe form and structure. It is good to get a book on anatomy to study what lies beneath a person's skin, the bones and muscles so it gives you a better understanding of what lies on top.
