Robert Redford oil painting demonstration and here the photo below is what I'm going to paint in oils from.

I started off with burnt umber diluted with turpentine just to start off and basically painting in the features of the face. The vertical line down the centre of the face should have been in between the brow and through the bulbous end of the nose and then through the mouth and chin but I was slightly off here but it doesn't matter it can be painted over.
The basic features have all been painted in roughly now and it really doesn't matter if they are accurate because as the portrait goes on things are adjusted.

The hair has been just roughly painted in with the same burnt umber and I started with the pinky middle flesh tones made with cadmium red, yellow ochre, ultramarine blue and titanium white.

The jacket was painted in with the same colour and the shirt painted in with ultramarine blue with a touch of burnt umber and white. This same colour was used for the background and all of the colours so far have been diluted with turpentine so all the colours are thin.

The same burnt umber has been laid into the background giving variety and harmony. A darker burnt umber was used to indicate form in the hair following the hair with my brushstrokes. The glasses have been painted in darker and thicker and under the nose shadows have been added.
