Figure drawn in charcoal and here I am going straight off with drawing in charcoal with no initial basic drawing in with pencil. This is a sketch so it wont be a very careful drawing like I would do if it was for one of my customers. I started off at the top of the head and worked down roughly drawing in the features and there placement.
I carry on drawing in the figure and trying to get the angle of the head reasonably correct, it really doesn't matter if this angle is slightly off because it isn't a drawing of a particular person so I can do what I like as long as the overhaul figure looks right to the eye it will be fine.
I started toning in with the charcoal starting from her head and working down her left side, the light is coming from the right and above so everything down her left side will be in shadow.
All her hair has been given a tone using the side of the charcoal and a few features have been laid in but here I haven't gone overboard with detail. It is important to get the angle of the shoulders right in relationship to the angle of the breasts and here they are at more or less the same angle.
If you held a pencil vertically from the left edge of her left breast you would see where the left outline of the right knee would be, this is a good technique to use for aligning things up. It is very important here that the right arm looks like it is resting on the chair so getting the right vertical alignment from the shoulder to the elbow and then from the elbow to her hand as accurate as possible is essential.
Shading was added to her left leg which is in shadow and her feet are only suggested here, see the middle tone in her right shin, you can see the muscle there where it is creating form in conjunction with the light.
